Count and Write Numbers 1-20

Grades: Grade-1 Type: Interactive Levels: 4

Count larger groups of objects and write the correct number! This interactive activity helps first graders practice counting organized groups and writing numerals up to 20. Objects are arranged in groups of 5 to make counting easier and build number sense.

Practice these skills:

  • Count larger groups accurately using one-to-one correspondence
  • Use grouping strategies (counting by 5s) to make counting easier
  • Write numerals correctly from 1 to 20
  • Recognize teen numbers and understand “ten plus more”
  • Build confidence with numbers beyond 10

How it works: Objects are organized in groups of 5 to help you count. Look at the picture, count carefully, and type the correct number. You can count by groups: “five, ten, fifteen…” to make it easier!

Tips for success: Try counting the groups first, then add the extra objects. For example: “two groups of 5 is 10, plus 3 more is 13!”

Aligned with U.S. Grade 1 Math Standards (1.NBT.A.1, 1.NBT.B.2).
