What Is Multiplication?

Imagine you have 3 boxes, and each box holds 4 apples.
Instead of counting like this:
4 + 4 + 4 = 12
You can write it shorter with multiplication:
3 × 4 = 12
- The first number (3) tells you how many groups you have.
- The second number (4) tells you how many are in each group.
- The answer (12) is called the product.
